Background

Born to Rebel intelligence operatives working undercover on Coruscant, Gemmer was orphaned at a young age when Imperial counter-intelligence raided his home. Separated from his twin brother Bowman, Gemmer was taken under the protection of the black market tycoon and friend of his family, Ryland Kargin. Kargin raised Gemmer as de facto little brother to his adopted son Dru Kargin.

Upon the death of his benefactor, at age 14 Gemmer aided Dru (then 19) in countering a coup which attempted to contest his succession to his father's position.

Gemmer quickly demonstrated his aptitude for zero-G combat and tactics, both vehicular and dismounted. On Gemmer's 18th birthday, Dru Kargin entrusted Gemmer with command of boarding operations on the pirate destroyer Fortitude.

At age 19 Gemmer gunned down a Jedi who was a passenger aboard a victim vessel. Through incessant training Gemmer gained a rudimentary ability to wield the fallen jedi's lightsaber.

At 21, Gemmer and the young Dru Kargin resigned from the crumbling criminal organization, which was suffering from intractable internal power struggles stemming from the earlier coup. At this time, Gemmer acted as both friend and bodyguard to Dru Kargin, whom he regarded both as brother and commander. With plenty of enemies in the illicit world, the two decided to join the New Republic starfleet. Their natural talent was critical in landing them an assignment with the legendary Rogue Squadron.

There, Gemmer was unexpectedly reunited with his twin brother Bowman. After the many years of separation, neither brother was quick to accept the other as true family. Bowman's budding force powers in conjunction with Gemmer's Jedi-cide and publicly flaunted lightsaber created an unspoken antagonism between the two.

Within Rogue Squadron Gemmer excelled, rising to the rank of Captain. Although successful and content, when Dru resigned Gemmer followed suit. The two returned to the world they knew best: Dru called on old contacts to resurrect his father's legacy. Adapting to the times, the new organization favored the information trade over piracy and smuggling. Gemmer served as security chief.

Three years later, upon the ambush and destruction of the freighter Amelia, Gemmer was presumed dead.

Physical Attributes and Abilities

Gemmer looks and acts like the ex-pirate commando that he is. 5' 10" with dark brown eyes and medium length brown hair, Gemmer presents a wirey and vaguely feral appearance. His facial features are rough and likewise roughly handsome.

Gemmer has strong leadership skills, but only brings them to bear when officially placed in charge. He is an expert at space tactics, including ship boarding and raiding — a skill at which he excelled from an early age. He has considerable skill in slicing and mechanics. He is highly proficient in close quarters combat and is a more than adequate marksman.

Personality Traits

Gemmer loved customizing and building weapons. His mechanical experiments and personal arsenal were his main pastime. In his younger years, he gained a reputation as a goofy jokester with an ego bordering on the absurd. When on duty, however, he proved himself serious and calculating, if not slightly rash.

Since leaving Rogue Squadron, Gemmer grew increasingly reserved, the mark of his responsibilities as Chief of Security. His devout loyalty to Dru and the memory of the previous collapse of Ryland's organization led Gemmer to order and take part in several less than savory operations. Before the destruction of the Amelia, Gemmer's previous levity had been replaced with a casual, easy going manner which was underscored by a dire gravity in his gaze.
