Background
Corran was born on the planet of Corellia. He followed in his father’s footsteps by joining Corellian Security Force (CorSec), a self-sufficient law enforcement organization known for its drive and effectiveness in chasing down smugglers and bringing them to justice.
Two events became a major turning point in his life. Firstly, the brutal murder of his father in front of his eyes. Secondly, being chased by Imperial liaison officer Kirtran Loor for two years before joining Rogue Squadron.
In Rogue Squadron, Corran soon became second only to Wedge in flying ability and proved his mettle in ground operations during many tide-turning battles against the Empire.
Physical Attributes, Abilities, and Personality
Corran is 5’6”, muscular due to ceaseless weight training and exercise and has dark brown hair and green eyes. He often sports a goatee. He has a forgettable face and does not stand out from the crowd, making intrusion possible with minimal disguise.
X-wings are Corran’s life, and there are few pilots who can fly them more skillfully. He also considers tinkering with his starship one of his favorite hobbies. More than just a pilot, though, Corran has proven an ability to handle himself in ground combat due to a combination of his CorSec and Jedi training. He is no expert at ranged weapons, but with a saber, sword, or improvised staff in his hands, he can be very deadly in close quarters. Both CorSec and Jedi training, as well as unexpected experience in his earlier days in Rogue Squadron, have given Corran some ability in undercover operations.
Inside, Corran is highly disciplined and driven individual. He focuses on causes and other people more than his personal needs or desires. At one time being incarcerated in and escaping from the Super Star Destroyer Lusankya, Corran became singularly focused on rescuing the rest of the prisoners. He sees no life for himself beyond Rogue Squadron and Jedihood, and puts away thoughts of romantic entanglements or settling down for a “normal life on a quiet planet.” On the outside, Corran is calm and often easygoing. He sees himself as a mentor to the squadron, and listens to the pilots’ problems. However, now that he’s the commanding officer of Rogue Squadron, he finds himself less effective in that role and needing to be more of the hard-edged general.
Significant Possessions
Corran cherishes his gold-beamed lightsaber, his droid Whistler, and his golden X-wing model.
Starships
Corran flies a custom gold-plated X-wing, which he is ceaselessly tweaking.
Astromech
Whistler, an R2-series who has helped save his master’s life on more than one occasion. Whistler is also entrusted with carrying Corran’s lightsaber.
Jedihood
Long before he knew of his Jedi heritage, Corran noticed a heightened sensitivity to the Force. During his time in Rogue Squadron, Corran learned that he was Force sensitive, and even attended Luke’s academy for a while. However, due to conflicts with Luke’s views of the Force and his teaching methods, Corran left the academy and sought to learn the Force on his own. During that time, he encountered several alternative teachings that ultimately gave him a chilling brush with the Dark Side. That event has always made Corran extraordinarily cautious about using the Force for any trivial matters and even more paranoid about employing the Force in significant ways. He even only ever uses his lightsaber when battling another saber. In reality, Corran has never been powerful in the Force. He has only possessed small ability in manipulating weak minds, absorbing high inputs of energy to perform temporary feats of telekinesis, and receiving visions. Corran has strictly used the Force, in Yoda’s words, for knowledge and defense—the former more often than the latter.
Knowing that the original Jedi code has been scattered throughout the past, and not trusting many of the contemporary practices that he sees as having lead to the fall of the Jedi to the Sith, Corran has helped a little with the Jedi quest to recover the original Jedi code so that it may be practiced. He hopes to aid more in the future.
Corran has had many times of confusion and doubt concerning the Force. At one time, in a move he sees in retrospect as highly risky, Corran took on Tyria Sarkin as a Jedi apprentice. Not feeling himself entirely up for the task, he also enlisted the help of Jedi and Rogue Ran-Syi Torack. The training almost proved disastrous when Tyria had a brush with Sith Lord Darth Zev. After training Tyria as much as he could, Corran knighted her outside the official realm of Luke’s Jedi Knighthood.
As a pilot in Rogue Squadron, Corran feels that he is at his most effective in service to the light side of the Force. Later, he believes, the Force may lead him to the more wandering life of a Jedi Warrior and/or Archaeologist.
In more recent times, Corran has lost almost all his sensitivity to the Force. It occurred when, in a moment of desperation, he tried to transfer fellow pilot Hayden Krah out of his dying body and into a new one, an incredibly unusual and controversial action that he'd once performed successfully (and accidentally) on Ran Kether. After failing to rescue Hayden, Corran's sensitivity to the Force was severed for unknown reasons, and he has only been able to regain a little of his connection to the Force yet no abilities. The gems in Corran's lightsaber also burst, leaving him without the iconic Jedi weapon.
