Background

Bowman was born to Rebel intelligence agents along with his younger twin, Gemmer. Raised on Corellia and then on Coruscant, Bowman was orphaned at a young age when his parents were murdered by Imperial counter-intelligence. Separated from Gemmer, Bowman was rescued and taken in by his aunt and uncle, scientists working for the Rebellion in a secret research facility on the forest moon of Endor.

While the facility provided an excellent learning environment, there were very few other children, leaving the young Bowman to spend most of his free time among the Ewok tribes inhabiting the region. During this time, he discovered his aptitude for music, mechanics, and computer programming, as well as methods of stealthy hunting taught to him by the Ewoks.

When Bowman turned 12, the Empire began construction of the second Death Star's shield generator only a few kilometers the facility. The concern and warnings of his foster family and facility commanders did not stop him from taking it upon himself to investigate the Empire's activities, At one point, he even stole a 74-Z Speeder Bike from an Imperial scouting party. It was during this time that he began to show signs of his Force sensitivity as demonstrated though his ease of navigating the dense woods at insanely high speeds.

Shortly before the Battle of Endor, a contingent of Imperial troops discovered and destroyed the research facility, killing those left behind when the evacuation pods had been exhausted... including his family. Narrowly evading capture, Bowman fled to his Ewok friends for safety. After the Death Star had been destroyed, he left the moon with the Rebellion.

Biography in Rogue/Wraith Squadron

Early History

With no known family left, Bowman stayed close to the Rebel Alliance, eventually becoming a pilot at the young age of 16. Despite having had limited formal starfighter piloting training, he excelled quickly, later being assigned to Rogue Squadron around the time of Operation Vertex at the age of 21.

Not long after his assignment to RS, Bowman was unexpectedly reunited with his brother, Gemmer. However, the reunion was far from warm; having grown up apart, neither brother was quick to accept the other. Bowman's connection to the Force and Gemmer's attitude towards the Force, as well as his publicly flaunted lightsaber-trophy, resulted in an unspoken antagonism between the two.

A year later, Bowman resigned his commission from Rogue Squadron, leaving to venture out on his own.

Post Rogue Squadron

The history of Bowman's activities over the course of the next few years is sketchy at best, and Bowman makes every attempt to keep it that way. What is know, is that he began referring to himself by last name, became a renowned smuggler, and jack of most trades. This did not, however, prevent him from having several scrapes with law enforcement and several shady groups ranging from from Nal Hutta all the way to the Imperial Remnant.

Roughly 3 years after resigning from military duty, Gavin was ambushed on Ord Mantell by Imperial law enforcement. He escaped, but his ship was badly damaged in the process, leaving him adrift in a remote sector of the Outer Rim territories of Imperial space. Against all odds, Gavin was discovered and rescued by his old comrades, now on the run from the New Republic.

Back in Service

Unofficially redrafted back into active service, Gavin initially remained withdrawn from his colleagues, keeping his quarters on the Blade, and preferring to maintain his solitary existence while at the same time performing covert surveillance on them.

It wasn't until the crawler threat that he decided to re-integrate himself with the units; devising a plan for EMP weapons against the crawlers, as well as requesting and being accepted for a position in Wraith Squadron.

Wraith Squadron

Once accepted into Wraith as Heavy Weapons Expert, Gavin took part in the successful mission to capture the Night Caller.

Not long after, Gavin and fellow Wraith Carithlee "Shadow" Lightfoot fell in love, and after a slightly hesitant start, became an item. However, not everyone approved of the relationship; quickly worsening the rift between himself and Colonel Tyria Antilles.

Shortly before the mission to Dorstal IV, Gavin was promoted to the rank of Captain. However, the celebration was short lived as during the mission, Shadow was critically injured by the crawlers. It was at this time that Gavin’s hard exterior began to crumble, as he spent every available minute (and then some) by her side while she recovered in the Sacul’s medbay.

Under the alias “Jaden Corr”, Gavin infiltrated a data relay station along with Kai, aka, “Flux'en”, in preparation for the first official use of the Night Caller; breaking in to a Datul data storage facility.

Shira resurfaces and is eventually taken to Myrkr by Face while the Squadrons take a vacation on Ry-Son IV.

While on vacation, Gavin’s independent tendencies and lack of respect for command authority began to resurface. Accused of being reckless and impulsive by Wedge, he was also reprimanded for repeatedly questioning and complaining about several of Rogue Squadron’s stricter rules, many of which Gavin found to be unnecessary and “dumb”. Tyria disapproval for Gavin’s relationship with Shadow flared again, and she accused him of having less then honorable intentions. The accusation quickly ended with the Colonel being thrown into the hotel’s swimming pool, resulting in a short scuffle with Wedge.

Ckollubar: The Dark Seed

During the liberation of Ckollubar, Gavin accidentally stumbled across a Sith Holocron in one of the less gruesome laboratories. The Holocron reacted to his presence in the Force and, unbeknown to Gavin, unlocking and heavily tainting his Force potential.

Rescuing Face: The Seed Takes Root

The effects of the Holocron began to manifest themselves in Gavin as the Wraiths responded to a distress call from the Face, requesting pick-up from the planet Myrkr. As the Wraiths readied for a confrontation with Shira, Shadow expressed concern over Gavin’s increasingly dark and distant behavior. However, unable to fully remember the events on Ckollubar, he gently dismissed her concern. Face is rescued, but the hunt for Shira is placed on hold when Tyria is kidnapped by the Datuls and held for ransom aboard one of their ships.

The End of the Syndicate: The Darkness Blooms

Gavin, beginning to suffer from headaches, is assigned to the Decoy/Rescue unit - along with Shadow, Moor, and Deven Tarn - in charge of neutralizing the Colonel captures and rescuing the her while Face leaded an assault on the Datul stronghold. During the rescue, Shadow's life was threatened and the effects of the Holocron came to fruition; Gavin's animal-like anger exploded and with Tyria's lightsaber, he violently cut down not only her attacker, Luciano Datul, but Mr. E as well. Turning to strike down Stefano Datul, Deven intervened and prevented Gavin from slaying him. With Shadow's life safe again, the adrenaline-driven surge abated and the rescue party fled from the Datul ship.

Aftermath

Upon return to the Arrow, Gavin is placed under "house arrest" for murder and is confined to the Blade under guard.

Shadow visits Gavin and the two have a tense conversation. Fearing a loss of control, Gavin pleads with Shadow not to return until he finds a solution. She agreed.

Corran and Wedge come to a decision regarding Gavin's actions and visit him to inform him of that decision. Gavin's demeanor has changed drastically and his darker, more brazen, and outright insolent behavior had fully surfaced. Wedge informed Gavin that he is forbidden from setting foot on the Arrow, but is free to depart with the Blade at any time. In his uninhibited contempt for Tyria's accusations of murder, for Tyria, and thus, his contempt for Wedge, Gavin engaged in a psychological attack against the Generals by verbally suggesting that, and projecting an image in which, Tyria had been intimate with Corran before she had married Wedge. The attack is successful to a degree and the Generals depart indignant.

Before the Wraiths are able to return to the Arrow, Gavin decided to leave the Arrow and took it upon himself to expedite the process. Leaving a datacard for Shadow explaining his reason for leaving, he incapacitated his guards and sealed off the hanger long enough for him to re-board the Bladeand depart.

Dealings With Shira

Leaving the Arrow, Gavin tracked down out the only immediate source of information on the Dark Side. Shira Brie.

"You mistake darkness for fear."
"And you mistake fear for cowardice. Fear is powerful."
"You fear the Darkness. But not for yourself."
"I fear nothing, Shira Brie.
"
―Exchange between Gavin and Shira[ref]

However, while he sought protection, for strength of both body and mind, Shira had other plans. In exchange for information, then and at a later date, she would have shown him power, raw and untamed. He turned her down, deciding to learn for himself the best means of controlling the Dark Side. Before departing, Shira capitalized upon his fears, manipulating him and driving him to return to the ruins of his childhood home on Endor.

Home Again

After visiting the aging grave site of his aunt and uncle, Gavin broke the seal on his own home in search for a family heirloom, the lightsaber that had once belonged to his great-grandfather. However, he was confronted by Shadow, who had followed him while also on mission to recover the computer core from the crashed Sacul. After a heated exchange, Gavin agrees to return with her and face the consequences of his actions.

Upon return, Gavin revealed to Horn his events on Ckollubar, including the encounter with the Holocron. While discussing matters of consequences, Gavin inadvertently let it slip that he had come into the possession of a lightsaber. At Horn's expression of disapproval and suggestion that he surrender it, Gavin expressed his own displeasure with several brazen remarks. Later, in private, he was reamed by Shadow for his behavior. Eventually, he surrendered the weapon to Shadow of his own volition.

Sekar IV

While the Sacul is being rebuilt, the squadrons vacation on Sekar IV. Gavin accompanies them, against his better judgment. When the squadrons’ transport explodes, marooning them on the planet, Gavin decided to spend his time meditating, away from the main camp. This later turned to his benefit when his comrades begin to fall under the effects of the planet’s unusual hormone-altering effects, quickly affecting their judgments and bringing to the surfaces their individual darker impulses. As a “safety precaution”, he decided to remain away from the camp, yet kept regular taps on events.

When 200 of Councillor Brom's troops and mercenaries landed, with the intent of eradicating the Rogues and Wraiths, Gavin rejoined his squad mates to hold off their attackers while the Rogues fled for the valley. Utilizing the Ewok hunting techniques learned in his younger years, Gavin and Kettch paired up in silently dealing with several of the hunters.

Soon after, the squadrons were rescued by the newly reconstructed Sacul.

Downtime

A week or so after being rescued Sekar IV, Gavin accompanied Kai and Face (and Asha) on a "mission" deep within the bowels of Coruscant. They engage their targets, two brothers thought to be at the head of a small slavers ring operating in Coruscant, in a game of holopool. Face pick pockets the brothers of their ID's and credits while Kai attached one with a homing device. Unfortunately, one brother noticed his missing credits and a brawl quickly erupted. The Wraiths, victorious, left the bar in stunned silence.

Later that night Gavin was approached by Skywalker who offered training and guidance to help him overcome his struggle with the dark side. While resistant at first, Gavin agreed to consider the proposal before coming to any decision.

Gavin and Shadow discuss their relationship and Skywalker's offer. She expressed concern regarding Face's policy against Jedi in Wraith Squadron, but Gavin assures her that his intensions are only to progress as far as needed to be able to control his darker impulses. Satisfied with the arrangement, Shadow returned his lightsaber.
